About Dr. Scheel

Monica Scheel, MD

Dr. Monica ScheelDr. Monica Scheel graduated from Pharmacy School at the University of Texas in Austin in 1985. She practiced pharmacy for a year and continued during her medical school training at the University of Texas Southwestern in Dallas from 1991-1995.

Dr. Scheel completed an internship in internal medicine and then spent three years in a dermatology residency at the University of Texas Galveston Medical Branch from 1995-1999. She practiced with a dermatology group in Texas for three years prior to coming to Hawaii in 2002.

Dr. Scheel is Board Certified through the American Academy of Dermatology. She has earned memberships in the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery and the American Society of Laser Medicine and Surgery. She is an active member of the Hawaii Dermatology Association and the Hawaii Island Dermatology Society.

Dr. Scheel receives over 100 hours of continuing education per year and stays current in therapeutics and technologies by attending and speaking at local and national meetings. She is a faculty member for the University of Minnesota Medical School and assists in teaching a course on integrative medicine to 4th year medical students.

Dr. Scheel’s community service includes free skin cancer screenings in her office, at the Waimea Senior Fair and the Makalei Golf Course. She also lectures in the schools, to women’s groups and cosmetic practitioners about skin wellness and skin cancer prevention.

She has settled in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii and enjoys island life by hiking, running, scuba diving, yoga and playing at the beach with her two chocolate Labradors, Shanti and Dharma.
